  My wife wants the stepson to 'study'....any ideas??

  as if i did not have enough stress in my life right now.....we have a son who has finally come clean on some of the things he has done in the past, and these things were pretty bad.

  my wife (who many of you probably feel you know from earlier posts) has been acting very interested in the jws and now with the son's admittance of his transgressions, she has decided that it is time for him to 'meet his maker', so she has told him that the two of them will be studying the 'bible' together.

  she has talked to the sister she has studied with about this and she is more than willing to help by providing literature to guide the studies, i am guessing the 'young people ask' books.

  If he thinks scientifically, perhaps you could take him through the way the WTS uses old information in the How Did Life Get Here book and misquotes sources when disseminating doctrine. Explain to him how indoctrination works, and how fear is used. Give him as much defence as possible.

  I'm just wondering if jgnat has some mystical power that lets her ascertain all these amazingly insightful things about W007. Good grief, he's just asked for some advice as he has some thoughts about the future - no need to bash him into the ground. Hope things work out well for you W007. If we can learn from mistakes we've made then all well and good. My advice: give yourself time, don't rush and be honest with those whom you meet. Until then, all the best with coping in your situation.

  Well at 15, hopefully as long as you share some of the fallacies with him, even if it's not with his mother's knowledge, I would have thought he would handle the rest for himself. But you said he already thinks the Witnesses are weird - maybe you've nothing to worry about as far as he's concerned?

  Becuase I choose not to trust a statement from a member of this board to the extent whereby I accept their guarantee of something I am at the mercy of someone/something where as if I did accept it I wouldn't be?

  Does this mean that those who place trust in Warlock's guarantee are free-thinking, responsible, empowered individuals?

  I don't claim to know what would happen if everyone in the United States were allowed to carry a gun on their hip - maybe it would increase respe... I mean fear. But I'm not particularly keen to find out right now.

  What would the school kids do with them?

  after several years 'out' i can't be the only one who still gets a bit pissed off to hear 'oh so clever' apostates slagging off jw's for being dumb, stupid and worse.

  grow up!

  the beliefs of jehovah's witnesses are certainly stupid but then i'd say the same for all christian belief just as many of you might condemn my atheistic, evolutionary postion as being nonsense.

  Your posts are so obviously skewed by your desire to believe what the Watchtower teaches, and it's really sad to see. Suggesting that we are saying Witnesses are not stupid just because we used to be Witnesses is ridiculously shallow and a really cheap shot at people that have had to come to terms with mistakes they've made. These same people are trying to help you stop making the same mistakes.
  
  Speaking of which, have you read that book I recommended you yet - the one about the bible and how it's misused today?

  Of course they're not "stupid" as a group. As Mr. Flipper said, read S. Hassan's work ('Releasing The Bonds' is the newer of the two books) and you'll soon see it's not that simple. There are numerous factors at work, of which intelligence is merely one, and probably not the most important one.

  are going down with melbourne australia {and many other countries} recording the "coldest winter in ten years.".

  i don't normally volunteer for anything, but i happily volunteer to donate blood.

  I don't feel it's a duty, but I do feel I want to go and do it simply because it's helpful and I haven't done it as yet, and it's another thing I can do that I used to believe I shouldn't and I like extending myself into new territory. If it's like other things I've done, it will feel fairly natural and be a non-event for me.
